Munich / Nubiberg, Germany—February 19, 2013—LanTIq, a leading provider of broadband access and home network technology, today announced the launch of a complete, ultra-small 11mm x 11mm package GPON Optical Network Unit (ONU) system-level chip FALC ™ ON-S. Thanks to its small size, high integration, and unique energy-saving features, FALC ON-S can provide a leading solution for small form-factor pluggable (SFP) modules with fully built-in GPON optical network unit functions. The chipset supports a variety of broadband access systems that implement GPON backhaul through a simple upgrade, such systems as MDU and WAN default gateway.
The miniaturization of FALC ON-S, and the ultra-low power consumption that exceeds the requirements of the European Code of Conduct for 2013 and 2014, make it an ideal for emerging small cell wireless infrastructure s solution.
Highlights and advantages of FALC ON-S
The industry's first fully qualified GPON SoC with integrated laser driver and limiting amplifier; integrates key optical components and control circuits, as well as optimizes board space and reduces the overall system bill of materials (BOM).
· 11mm x 11mm package size can realize a complete GPON ONU in the space of an SFP module.
· Direct control of the laser driver on the chip, including standby mode, can significantly reduce power consumption.
· Built-in hardware-based Rogue ONU management function, which can reliably isolate the interference to the ONU and effectively protect data services.
· Supported applications include:
Pure fiber and fiber / xDSL mixed configuration miniaturized MDU cabinet
Optical fiber backhaul of cellular wireless communication base stations including small cells
Customer premises equipment (CPE) with SFP slots provides the flexibility to use a home gateway design to support FTTH, xDSL or other network technologies
market information
According to market research company InfoneTIcs Research forecast: The global GPON market will continue to grow rapidly. InfoneTIcs analyst Jeff Heynen said in his report that global GPON ONT shipments totaled approximately 17.5 million ports in 2012, an increase of 127% from 2011; and it is expected that by 2016, GPON ONT shipments will increase To 26.8 million ports.
comment
Dirk Wieberneit, Senior Vice President of LanTIq and General Manager of the Client Equipment Business Unit, said: "As the global optical fiber network continues to expand and accelerates the transition from EPON to GPON to provide better performance and service quality, those providing Broadband access providers for SFP connection equipment can easily upgrade to GPON. This innovation brought by FALC ON-S enables our customers to maintain their technological leadership in the rapidly growing FTTx deployment market. "
Supply
FALC ON-S devices are now available for engineering development. Mass shipments will be in the second quarter of 2013.
