Ethiopia: The second telecom operator signs a network infrastructure agreement with Huawei

November 12, 2021
Reuters reported on November 12 that a senior government adviser said on Friday that Ethiopia expects its second telecommunications provider to start operations in the first quarter of next year and is completing preparations for the issuance of a mobile financial service license.

Kenya’s Safaricom, together with South Africa’s Vodacom, Britain’s Vodafone and Japan’s Sumitomo, paid US$850 million for operating licenses earlier this year.

Brook Taye, a senior adviser to the Ministry of Finance, said at an online conference that the consortium had just signed a network infrastructure construction agreement with China’s Huawei.
